Who We Are
Ashton Meeting Place is vision of a group of local developers - some who have been part of the community for nearly 80 years.
Fred Nichols, Managing Partner has been a resident of Sandy Spring for 23 years and a local land owner for a majority of those years. A member of the construction industry since 1979, Nichols succeeded his employment with a successful local general contractor by forming Nichols Contracting, Inc. (NCI). NCI is celebrating its 15th year anniversary to its commitment to clients, service and the community. This dedication has been proven over the years by the time, energy and resource allocation Nichols has promised and delivered.
To maintain the same spirit which fosters NCI’s construction projects, Nichols started Nichols Development, LLC (NDLLC). NDLLC’s mission is to invest in local communities by preserving historic buildings and enhancing current real estate to accommodate measured growth in the area. NDLLC’s proven track record of success is depicted by the renovations of the Sandy Spring based Stabler building and the Ashton based Alloway building. To maintain these properties Nichols has set up a management company and taken in a local partner to further ensure these properties continue their operations and appearance at a high standard.
His indelible commitment to the community is displayed by his participation and involvement in the community including Sandy Spring Museum member, volunteering at the Sherwood Elementary School, Farquhar Middle School, Sherwood High School and OBGC.
Willard Derrick (Deceased - 2007) was a resident of Ashton for more than 76 years. Mr. Derrick was the former president and chairman of Sandy Spring Bank where he spent 45 years. He joined the bank in 1952 and presided over an era of unprecedented expansion and growth. He was co-founder of the Sandy Spring Museum in 1980 and served as a Trustee for 23 years. He was instrumental in securing the permanent location on Bentley Road, its fund raising and construction. He had great interest in the preservation of the local history and artifacts but had vision for the needs and betterment of the community.
